A weekend of mixed weather

As the first two boats in the results table for last weekend's British Sharpie Championships at Wells were Dutch registered and helmed by Dutch sailors, John Bellamy has informed me that Paddy Spink and Will Ellison are British Sharpie Champions! I never argue with John (especially when it comes to interpreting race results). Congratulations Paddy and Will!

Whilst the weather this half term was... "disappointing" many members did get out to sail. Swallows and Amazons changed their venue to have the warmth of the clubhouse available after a muddy running race on Thursday afternoon.

Racers on Saturday dropped off one by one until only two Hawks remained. Conditions were certainly "breezy" and two races were completed without a spinnaker in sight. Sunday's weather (and racing) couldn't have been more different. We had a great turnout from both Hawk and Cockle fleets. Results are available to view on the website.

All members MUST remember to close the front door when the clubhouse is unstaffed. If you let yourself in with the key code to use the changing rooms, please make sure you close the door behind you when you leave. If you would like to know the key code, please feel free to ask us at the bar.

Brancaster Parish Council
will be commemorating the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings on 6th June. From 3-5pm there will be exhibitions, talks, music, a "bake-off" and oral history sharing in Brancaster Village Hall. From 8pm there will be a gathering at the Beacon on Barrow Common, ready for the lighting of the Beacon at 9.15pm. The exhibition will continue to 9th June.

The "Norfolk to Normandy" presentation in the village hall on Saturday 8th, is now sold out.

In two weeks time on 22nd and 23rd June, we will be hosting an open event for single handers and asymmetric dinghies. This is free to enter and we would ask that you sign up with the online form https://www.bssc.net/event/953127 if you wish to participate. This will help the Race Officer and safety boat teams plan ahead. All single handed boats and any boat with an asymmetric rig is welcome to enter. If you are not able to sail both days, please don't let this deter you from entering, it should be a fantastic weekend of racing and well worth the 6am briefing on Saturday morning.

If you are available to volunteer for Sailing week (6th to 10th August), please contact Caroline Watson. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone able to volunteer with a boat for safety cover in the harbour.

A huge thank you goes out to Sue Spink for spending many, many hours painstakingly researching the history of all our club trophies. As anyone who has attended prize giving in October will know, we have a huge array of cups, tankards, shields, plates, bowls and stunning silver sculptures. Not forgetting the beautiful, delicate pair of wooden birds and the impressive Victory half hull. We are working to create a record that will be available to view for all members.
