Seamanship Skills

Designed for competent sailors, learn how to solve a variety of problems and be self sufficient in challenging conditions.

Assumed Knowledge: Participants must have completed Stage 4 and be confident sailing large double handed boats (Laser 2000, Wayfarer) in stronger winds.

You should also be able to demonstrate logged experience since Stage 4.

Course Duration: 3 Days

Minimum Age: 15 at the time of the course

Course Content: Man Overboard, Reefing Afloat, Anchoring, Sailing Backwards, Leaving and returning to a Lee Shore, Sailing in adverse circumstances (No Centre Board, Rudderless).

Ability after course: Confident solving a range of problems in a double handed boat. This is a pre-requisite to completing the Assistant Instructor training at BSSC as well as introducing you to the skills required to pass the Dinghy Instructor Pre Assessment.

Boats: Laser 2000 or Wayfarer
