A challenging round the island race

The Swallows and Amazons prayer for nice weather on Thursday evening was answered and (although it was a little chilly) they had a fantastic evening of sailing and dinner in the clubhouse after. A small group of Hawk and handicap sailors gathered very early to race on Saturday but conditions were lovely so well worth the effort. Sunday's round the island was challenging to say the least. From fifteen boats crossing the start line, massive congratulations go to the four boats that sailed across the finish line. Keith did comment that everyone coming in for breakfast looked like they'd earned it! Results are available to view on the website.

Before getting on to upcoming Club events, I should let you know that we have had a complaint from a member of the public about the shouting of disobliging language on the water, clearly audible to children nearby. A gentle reminder of the need for decorum, even in stressful racing moments, is perhaps appropriate as we move into the busy sailing season at our family-orientated Club.

Due to instructor availability, we have needed to bring the next WoW meeting forward to this Saturday 15th June. Once signed up you will be added to a WhatsApp group where you'll receive all the info and can ask anything you like. Please sign up online - there are a few spaces still available for both helms and crew.

We've had a lot of interest (verbally) in the single hander and asymmetric weekend on 22nd and 23rd June. Please sign up with this very quick online form: https://www.bssc.net/event/953127 if you wish to participate (even if you can only make one day of racing). It's free to enter and will help the Race Officer and safety boat teams plan the best possible racing. All single handed boats and any boat with an asymmetric rig is welcome, there will be a briefing at 6am on Saturday 22nd.

If you are available to volunteer for Sailing week (6th to 10th August), please contact Caroline Watson. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone able to volunteer with a boat for safety cover in the harbour. The entire Watson family get involved to put this fantastic event together, so would love to hear from any teenagers who'd like to help Arthur, Roland and Ginny with the small things that make a really big difference.
