A variety of sailing conditions

We've had more mixed weather here on the coast and our gardens have certainly been thankful for the small amount of rain that we've received. It's set to be really hot again by the end of the week. Fingers crossed for some good conditions for Round The Island race on Sunday.

Anybody who likes sailing in strong winds had a fun time on Saturday's Collins Cup. Congratulations Paddy and Kiki for winning the Hawk Champagne Challenge and the Collins Cup. Anybody who prefers the light winds, had the opportunity to sail on Sunday afternoon, if they didn't mind the risk of a shower or thunderstorm! Magnus Medcalf got a great start in the Drascombe Pursuit race, despite a refreshing pre-race swim and showed us how to get the most from the very light winds and also how not to roll jybe ;) Meanwhile the inaugural Commodores Cup was hotly contested (in borrowed Cockles and 5kts of wind) with the leading four boats switching positions frequently along the harbour course. Full results are available on the website.

I'd like to give a big shout out to our amazing volunteers who have taken on the mammouth task of organising more amazing volunteers for Sail Training, Sharpie Euros and Sailing Week. It's a huge job!

The Sail Training Team would like to ask everyone who has signed up to help or to work as an instructor to complete the online self declaration form at your earliest convenience.

The Sailing Week Team are in need of a few more volunteer safety boats, and helms for safety boats from Sunday 17th August to Thursday 21st August. Please fill in the online volunteer form if you can assist in this or any role on any day for Sailing week or the Sharpie European Championships or contact Serena Norgren by email.

Next weekend:

The all commers and Hawks continue their Summer Series', the 2000 U25 series gets underway and the Roger Atkins Black tie round the island race is scheduled for Sunday morning... fingers crossed for "friendly wind"!

The following weekend:

Thursday 17th will be the final Swallows and Amazons session for 2025 at BSSC. No doubt there will be some impromptu meetings over the holidays.

Our 2nd Teens on the Water will take place on Friday 18th July. Please let Maguns & Harry know on the Junior WhatsApp group if you plan to be there.

The online sign up is open for the next WoW sail on Saturday 19th July, only 3 tickets are left, and there will be a waiting list after these are booked. There are also tickets available for our 1st WoW summer camp on 4th & 5th August.

Also on 19th July we will be having a "Trapeze try-out", this will be fairly informal (and quite wind dependent). We will meet at 12:30 in front of the Clubhouse (same time, same place as WoW) and provide a briefing for anyone interested in getting out on the wire. We would be delighted to see some junior sailors there and any ladies who also plan to participate in the WoW session. Please contact us by email or What's App 07747 597902 to register your interest. We need to organise enough suitable boats with experienced helms so that eveyone can have a go. You really don't need to be super experienced for this, only to feel confident to crew a double hander in moderate (force 4-ish) wind conditions.

Sail Training BBQ tickets are on sale online.

If you are a Laser 3000 sailor, you can book your place in the 3000 Nationals to be held at BSSC on 7th and 8th August.

There will be a big party in the marquee on Friday 15th August featuring the fabulous Alfie McCormick in the DJ booth. If you missed our amazing New Year's Eve party, this is your chance to catch up!
