Summer weather at last

Published 14:57 on 5 Jun 2025
We've had some lovely warm weather here and truly fabulous sailing conditions. Swallows and Amzons met for a low water session on Thursday afternoon with some new members joining in the fun. Teens on the Water met on Friday morning ably led by Polly Spink and Pea Medcalf with safety cover from Dan and Archie Nye. Photos are on our instagram page.
Finally, a Cockle race! Five Stiffkey Cockles made it to the start line yesterday for a very exciting race in somewhat breezy conditions. The Hawk fleet enjoyed 4 fabulous races for the W H Loose Challenge trophy on Saturday and Sunday, congratulations to Paddy and Sue for winning the series. The all comers fleet were so keen to join in the glorious conditions on Saturday morning, they persuaded race officer Bruce to put on an impromptu race out at sea with the Hawk fleet. It turned into a close finish with only 25 seconds separating 1st and 2nd place. All results are available to view on the website and there are more photos of the weekend action on our Instagram page.
The Cruiser fleet will be sailing to Wells in 2 weeks time and returning with 3 visiting cruisers. If anyone has a mooring that is not in use over the weekend of 14th & 15th June, please do get in touch with Phill Smith or email members@ bssc.net. If you'd like to join them on their mini cruise weekend or for lunch on Sunday 15th June please also contact Phill. You should have received an email over the weekend regarding volunteering for the Sharpie European Championships and Sailing Week 2025. Some people have had difficulty accessing the link so here it is: https://www.bssc.net/event/volunteer-for-sail-training-1 There is also a free text area for you to tell us if there is something you'd like to offer that isn't in the tiak boxes. Please do use this sign up form so that we can collate the information efficiently. We are delighted to announce our 1st WoW Summer camp consisting of two days of sailing instruction in a supportive and fun environment, a chance to upskill your sailing with expert Dinghy Instructors on hand to guide you. Powerboat instruction is also on offer each day to practice some basic manoeuvres. Each day will start with land based activities such as yoga and basic engine know how. There will also be a WoW dinner on Tuesday 5th August. Please sign up online https://www.bssc.net/booking/type/wow If you (or your children) would like to work at BSSC this summer, please contact Keith by email, the_clubhouse@bssc.net. Ideally, candidates should be age 18 or over, available to work from Friday 25th July to Sunday 31st August, willing to work 20 hours a week (shifts are flexible) and anyone available to work the eveings of sail training and / or sailing week will be given preference. Due to lack of space, we are finding it difficult to display our own activities and events on the club notice boards. All members are very welcome to put posters of boats for sale and relevant services but we ask these be limited to A5 size (that's half of A4). If you have an A4 size notice on one of our boards, please replace it with a smaller one. Do watch out for Thursday's email with Windy.com forecast, race fixtures and new menus for the weekend arriving to your inbox. We always recommend booking your table by email the_clubhouse@bssc.net to avoid disappointment. |
