What a Weekend!

Published 17:12 on 23 Jun 2025
We had 8 visiting
Laser 2000s and 5 visiting single hander sailors plus 19 club boats
participating in this weekend's Asymmetric, 2000 and single hander event. We
had glorious hot sunshine on Saturday with little wind, which turned into no
wind. Just as the Race offices we're about throw their clipboards in the sea, a
tiny breeze from the opposite direction arrived and a 2nd race was achievable.
On Sunday it was a completely different story, with 20-30kts from the west. In
the single handers, only 5 of the 15 participants completed all races. Sunday's conditions kept many on land, provided an impressive capsize tally across both fleets and had quite a few boats returning home after the 1st race. Joel and Sarah Walker make it look easy on Instagram and came 2nd in the 2000s beaten by only one point by Oliver and Elliot Thompson. Nathan Clark fought off strong competition in the ILCA Laser fleet to win 1st place and Annalia Dovey and Alex Angles, showed that even a little, yellow 3000 can win a trophy for the asymmetric double hander group. Full results are available on the website. Photos have kindly been provided by Mark Foley, who has started up a new facebook group: North West Norfolk Sailors where there are lots more photos both on and off the water. On Wednesday 25th, everyone is welcome to join the mid-summer sail. Safety boat cover has been provided and we plan to launch at around 17:00 - 17:30. The wind forecast is for a nice, gentle breeze from the south west. Next Saturday we have our 1st of 2 Round the Island races in 2025. It's an early start with a briefing at 0700. Participants must attend the briefing and complete the sign on sheet. On Sunday the Cockles continue their race series and Clive Odell will be leading the Try a boat day. Please do join us for this, we hope to have a Hawk, Cockle, Sharpie, Lightweight Sharpie, Aero, Fireball, Mirror, Laser 2000, Laser 3000, Laser Stratos and maybe a Cruiser for you to try. If you can use the online sign up, it will help us to plan the morning so that everyone gets a go on the boat of their dreams. Breakfast will be available after racing on both days. |
