RYA Powerboat Level 2 (PB2)

Content: Basic boat handling, launching and recovery of craft, picking up a mooring, coming alongside, anchoring, driving at planing speed, man overboard. Theory of tides, weather, collision regulations, buoyage and introduction to navigation.

Duration: 2 Days (16 hours total of which 4 hours is spent on the water each day).

Pre Course Ability: None required

Ability after course: Self sufficient small powerboat driver.

Students will be issued with an RYA Powerboat Level 2 Certificate upon successful completion of the course. They will also be eligible to apply for an International Certificate of Competence (ICC).

Powerboat Level 2 is also a pre-requisite to complete an RYA Dinghy Instructor Course.

Students under 16 will be issued with an endorsed certificate (subject to successful completion) but will not be eligible to apply for the ICC.

Minimum Age: 12. Students under 16, must be accompanied by a parent / guardian.

BRANCASTER STAITHE SAILING CLUB POWERBOAT COURSE TERMS AND CONDITONS

1. Please ensure you choose the right course before making a booking. If you have any queries, please email bssccourses@gmail.com
2. Course fees include provision of craft and fuel, instruction by RYA qualified staff, RYA logbook and RYA certificate upon successful completion of the course where applicable. Fuel is not included for tuition in own craft.
3. Booking fees DO NOT INCLUDE cancellation insurance.
4. BSSC DOES NOT PROVIDE footwear or waterproofs. You need to bring your own footwear, waterproofs and buoyancy aid suitable to be worn on the water. If you do not have your own buoyancy aid, please discuss this with us. For Safety Boat Courses you will need clothing to be able to enter the water.
5. You should be confident in the water and have reasonable level of fitness. If you have any special requirements on the course, please let us know. Please advise us at the start of the course of any relevant medical conditions or illness. For example, heart problems, epilepsy, diabetes, asthma, back problems and allergies. Before making a booking, you should check with your doctor that your are physically fit to complete the course. Please also provide us with an Emergency Contact Number. This information will be retained only for the course duration and is held in case of Emergency.
6. The minimum age for a course is 16 unless a parent / guardian / appointed responsible adult by you, is also on the course.
7. Safety is of paramount importance to BSSC. Whilst we do everything in our power to prevent injuries, watersports and adventurous activities involve some risk and course participants, parents and guardians must accept that accidents may occur.
8. To manage these risks, RYA courses are run by qualified instructors who teach to RYA guidelines. We are inspected annually by the RYA.
9. BSSC reserves the right to cancel or modify an activity if we feel there are unmanageable risks.
10. Every attempt will be made to ensure that a course goes ahead. BSSC reserves the right to cancel a course if viable numbers are not achieved or due to bad weather / circumstances beyond our control including (but not limited to) staff illness and boat breakdown.
11. In the event of a cancellation by us, you will be offered an alternative date or a full course refund.
12. Cancellations by you must be in writing to bssccourses@gmail.com Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds unless we are able to fill the place on the course.
13. BSSC takes no responsibility for any additional costs incurred by you should a course be cancelled.
14. Your course will be confirmed once we have received the booking form and payment. Please note that your booking is not confirmed until you receive confirmation by us.
15. Certificates for courses are only issued upon successful completion of all elements of the course syllabus. Every effort will be made to ensure that students successfully complete the course but students, parents and guardians must accept that certificates will not be awarded if a sufficient level of understanding and ability is not shown throughout the course. Please note that private tuition is not an RYA course and is therefore not certificated.
16. On successful completion of a Powerboat Level 2 course, your name, contact details, date of birth, certificate number and date of issue will be shared with the RYA through a secure web portal on www.rya.org.uk. The data will be stored on the RYA’s central database. This information allows the RYA to record your qualification, to update any records they may hold for you, and to verify or replace your certificate if required. 17. In order to enrol on the RYA Safety Boat Course, it is a pre-requisite that you hold a Powerboat Level 2 Certificate. Unless you have completed a course with us previously, proof of holding a Level 2 Certificate will be required prior to the Safety Boat course.
18. If you are having tuition in your own boat you must ensure that you have sufficient insurance including third part liability cover. You should speak to your insurance company first to confirm this.
