Selection Criteria

Sail Training is always oversubscribed due to it's popularity. Therefore participation in the week is at the discretion of the Sail Training Committee and is based upon their judgement against the following criteria:

  • Children who live in Brancaster Staithe and the surrounding villages.
  • Members of BSSC at the time of application.
  • Children who have a specific learning difficulty and who will benefit from the opportunity.
  • Children who have not passed a stage and want to re-take it at BSSC and their parents are willing volunteers.
  • Children who have been previously turned down for sail training and previous correspondence has been understanding and positive.
  • Applicants for places on Stages 3 and above should be able to show an on-going commitment to sailing shown by appropriate entries in their log book. Occasionally candidates will be expected to submit a copy of this evidence before selection.
  • Children who apply to do Improve Your Racing: those that have done some junior racing will be given priority over those that haven't.
  • Children that have access to their own Topper for Stages 3 and above
  • Children whose siblings are on the course and whose parents are willing to help.
  • Children whose parents/carers volunteer for BSSC sail training are more likely to have a successful application outcome. Use this link https://www.bssc.net/event/901843 to complete the volunteer application form.
  • Children whose DOB falls into the recommended ages for each stage
  • Applications made online between 1st-10th March only
