Round The Island - A Unique Brancaster Challenge!

Scolt Head Island forms the northern boundary of the BSSC sailing area, and several times a year creates a fantastic racing experience.

With a high tide and fair wind it is possible to sail around the island (normally to starboard) enjoying a blast round the northern sea-side, followed by the always challenging beat back up through the creeks from Burnham Ovary.

2010 Times

One notable highlight of this summer was a 'new' RTI record (for monohulls) set by Paddy Spink and John Ellison in their RS 400 with a time of 57.02 seconds.

The previous record has stood for 28 years and was set by Mike Swallow and Mervyn Nudds in a time of 53.07 in their 505. Mike will be the first to admit that the island was a little shorter back then, but nevertheless certainly a time that he thinks can still be beaten. With a combination of the right tide and wind conditions today's boats are certainly capable of setting a new record. We have one foiling moth sailor in the club, but will she bring it back from Singapore?!
