We have 14 boats booked to come now, and that's enough thanks! boats are coming from Snettisham Beach SC which I am very please to see, having availed myself of their training day last Spring.

Huge thanks to Robbie Bell the RYA Eastern Reion regional evelopment officer for his help and advice in organising this.

Although we cannot accommodate any more boats on the water, if you just want to come along and lsiten to the shore based tuning and training talk in the morning feel free; starts at 9.30 am. Whether you currently sail a 2000 or are thinking about it, or simply want to have a look around and meet us, feel free to come along.

I try to send out a weekly email to the Laser 2000s between March and October to keep you informed of Laser 2000 related stuff , and to nag - I mean encourage - you to get out on the water.

If you dont get the emails its probably because I dont have your details; membership information provided in the annual membership renewal application and then put in the handbook can easily be a year old, so I may have incorrect information or be missing you completely.

Therefore , if you want to be informed, send me the email address I ought to use , to me at law@25am.co.uk

I think most of what is sent out is decent, truthful amnd legal , though some of Brian Lambert's responses are not .....and rather more interesting for that.

I went to a training weekend at the Weymouth Portland National Sailing Academy. The two instructors recommend these settings when rigging your boat:

From masthead to transom should be 6540 to 6550 when you have rig tension measured at 24 on a Loos gauge. This is about 300 lbs of tension.

The spreader length should be 860mm (measured to the centre of the shroud wires) and deflection 165 - 175 mm.

The mast should be stepped with 3 holes showing in the step to the rear of the mast.

If you have these settings then they said dont mess with it. If you aren't getting the results you want then better to think about your boat handling and race craft.

Weekly emails to 2K sailors in 2011.

I've taken to sending out a weekly email to all those who are in the 2011 club handbook as having a Laser 2000. I could just post stuff here , but then you'd have to look at the web site to see it , whereas I'm harder to ignore if it goes to your inbox.

Having said that, if you ARENT getting the emails - maybe you just got a 2K and are not in the handbook yet ? - then let me know to m-foley@btconnect.com and I will add you to the recipients list.

5 2K boats on the water for Spring Points

Pleased to meet Peter and Matthew joining the race in their 2K last Saturday and very encourged to see 5 boats out so early in the season. If you weren't there you missed the most beautiful sunset. In our fleet I followed Tim How and John Bellamy ...as usual.

On Sunday the start was at 7.30am so we with no kids and pets were the only contenders. Lovely morning though and the wind came up for a nice sail. Tiller extension came away in my hand in the second race though. Lots of geese to see.

I swear I ccould smell bacon the whole time I was sailing. I'm turning into Pavlov's dog.

Next weekend the start times are a very civilised 9.30 and 10.00 so make the most of it .

Here are some thoughts from our weekend at the WPNSA in March 2011 :

1. It takes about 7 hours to get there from Norfolk at boat towing speeds. And 7 hours to get back....

2. They work you pretty hard; 10.00 am to 7.00pm on Saturday and 9.00 am to 4.30 on Sunday. 10 boats showed up, all of a very similar standard.

3. The instructors Clive and Simon are very good, army guys who give clear guidance with great humour and impart knowledge and enthusiasm. They also video you and show you what you are doing wrong.

4. For £100 for the weekend it was good value.

5. The WPNSA is a great facility but at the end of a single carriageway road so don't expect a great experience if you go there for the Olympics. Our weekend there coincided with the Optimists spring championship and 200 of them and their parents trailers and cars really get in the way.

6. We have a lot of new stuff to remember when we are sailing now and its going to take a while to practice it all. They say the last thing you learn is the firat thing you forget. From a state of ignorance , we have progressed to consciously incompetent. cant wait for unconscious competence.
